I would add economic conditions of a child's family and economic conditions in general as influences on a child's success.Arthur Mervynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17504229544539032232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7530739.post-37156213332382856132012-01-16T14:48:39.548-05:002012-01-16T14:48:39.548-05:00Thank you, CAFKIA. Your final paragraph is spot on...Thank you, CAFKIA. Your final paragraph is spot on. A good many southern Republicans were Democrats back in the days when they were the "party of the KKK" and jumped ship after the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts. Nixon and later Reagan figured out how to use that.

Thanks for mentioning West. That clown makes me grit my teeth when he talks. However, his statements about liberal policies being harmful are clearly wrong, at least in the aggregate. I do NOT agree that it is welfare and food stamps that have led to the social issues he alludes to. That is a viewpoint based on a very limited amount of the data available. My personal experience is that the greater impact is made in the teaching the kids what they can accomplish. Essentially, if you teach a thousand kids that they can't accomplish anything, you will be 60%-80% correct. OTOH, if you teach a thousand kids that they CAN accomplish anything they put an honest effort into accomplishing, you will be 60%-80%+ correct. Unfortunately, even if the kid, against all odds, has good teachers and good parents, there is still the influence of media, peer groups, hate groups, and oh by the way, the media.

If tomorrow every Black and Hispanic in the nation changed their political preference to republican, you would either see a new third party or, you would see a massive migration of Whites to the democratic party.
