Mrs. G brought up the excellent point that drugs, alcohol, and firearms should only be trusted in the hands of professionals with all three like me'n Fixer. Heh.
To me this is scarier than criminal intent. People who get all of their gun knowledge from cartoonish made-for-tv action movies with that level of firepower are a distinct hazard. I have found a bullet hole in the top of my old Suburban years ago and recently there have been death(s?) from celebratory shots fired into the air.
I think it would have been an excellent thing had the homeowner been able to return effective fire.
(and for the record, while I have mixed firearms and alcohol, I have always declined to include other intoxicants. As you may expect, the results vary according to stage of the alcohol intake process.)
I think most cops strategically position themselves under overpasses at midnight on New Years Eve to avoid gravity-fed "celebratory fire" incidents so they can respond to them a few minutes later.
