If they have to evacuate Long Island's south shore this weekend, my high school has been designated one of the shelters. Gonna be getting some new neighbors for a while maybe. If we make it through okay, we'll try to get some volunteering in. We're lucky enough to be located
dead center of the island at one of the widest points (15 miles). The folks on the south shore and out east are gonna get the brunt of it. Gonna be a fun weekend. Let's see if Long Island Sound finds a new way to connect to the Atlantic like it did 25 years ago.
Is the LIE raised? Might end up looking like a road to nowhere out over the Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteIf it reaches the LIE, we're all doomed, from Queens to Montauk it'll cover everything except maybe Bald Hill. Ain't nobody getting off the island regardless.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to all of you. This thing could be a real motherfucker.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you. Being dead center on a big old sand bar isn't all that great if you do get the 15 ft tidal surge. Why not just book a room in a Manhattan hotel, as high up as you can afford?
ReplyDeleteTake care!!! Be safe
ReplyDeleteStay safe out on LI. Mandatory evacuations at the Jersey Shore starting at 8am today.
ReplyDeleteOur town has sections that suffer from severe flooding (luckily, not our area, usually!).
