Ah, fer the good ol' days o' rum, sodomy, and th' lash!
I am actually old enough to have carried one of these in ITR. They had been replaced with the M-14, but we trained with the leftovers. The two rifles were very similar in use.
Speaking of memories, I got a bit of nostalgia last Thursday at work. I was tending a project at my work station when one of my work mates called me over. Seems a shipping customer had a ship's ball cap on that said "USS REEVES CG-24" - my old ship from back in the day.
The dude under the cap said he was onboard from 1984 to 1988 and introduced himself as PO O'Brien.
Shit on a Pogo Stick! IC2 O'Brien! I carted his ass home from the Honch (Japanese bar district just outside the base at Yokusuka) numerous times! Nearly 30 years and he ends up in my store! He had trouble remembering me but hey, I kept a low profile then. Apparently I wasn't the only one to pour his drunk ass back into his rack.
We're getting together with another old salt from back in the day on Sunday. Gotta break out my cap and fire up the Wayback Machine!
