Steve Benen has truly done yeoman's work this campaign season in documenting the astonishing onslaught of Romney's lies, and Fred Clark helpfully compiled them.Click those links. Read the lists. List after list of lie after lie. Hundreds of them — 533, to be exact, although Benen does not make any claim to providing a comprehensive chronicle.

While the sheer number of Romney's lies are indeed unprecedented for a presidential campaign, his fact-free campaigning is simply the logical continuation of a trend that started in the George W. Bush administration, when Republicans literally walled themselves from reality.
...
So this has been going on for a while. Right-wingers just don't have to confront facts they don't like any longer. They no longer have to watch to Edward R. Murrow dress down Joe McCarthy for his un-American demagoguery. They don't have to listen Walter Cronkite telling them the Vietnam War is lost. Those days are over -- they can simply switch the channel.
Now, they are tightly cocooned in the cozy world of FOX News, right-wing radio, conservative newspapers and wingnut blogs where high taxes and burdensome regulations are crushing the American dream, inflation is running rampant, businesses are suffering, global warming is a joke, homosexuality is a choice, illegal immigration is at all-time high, our scary Muslim enemies are on the march -- and if only Republicans could take power over the entire federal government again, those problems would all magically disappear.
Because of this highly-profitable right-wing media infrastructure so willing to deceive its consumers, and because conservative dogma has replaced fact-based analysis on the right, Republican candidates don't have an incentive to tell the truth. Quite the opposite.
It's going to get worse before it gets better.
I don't care how bad it gets any more, just so long as there aren't enough throwback morons to elect Willard the Vulture and Lyin' Ryan. If there are, we're done.

Here in SE Louisiana everyone I talk with (not many) that knows an election is coming up just want that nig out of office regardless of the consequence. If Fox news says it, then it must be true. Luckily many don't even know where their polling place is and if they did probably would not go. If they did go they would reelect their savior George W Bush.
It is the dumbest place I have ever lived but they make up for it by being proud of being ignorant.
I get a big kick outta "Cajun Justice" on TV about the Sheriff's Dept. in Terrebonne Parish. I loved it when a cop went all the way to New Orleans to find an obeah woman to remove a curse put on him by a guy he arrested. Lotsa supernatural/superstition belief stuff on the show, not just drunks with no shirts like in "Cops". Heh.
I have a TV now but I can't bring myself to watch it. The stuff the young aim at my age group is pathetic.
As for Cajun Justice I heard about it from the local News? Paper, a real rag. I live among these people so I don't need to see their ignorance and stupidity on TV. I know there are intelligent people here as I have met two or three of them I just don't seem to have a relationship with them.
I'm 66 so I think they ain't aiming at me either, but they got me dead center with that show! Hilarious! I guess they take slop shots. :-)
I was email screamed at this week by a Rethuglican bitch telling me that MY party was the party of the KKK, and that MY party only kissed up to "them" later for votes. (Pretty good kissin' to put one in the White House..or is that just me?), I was told MY party is just jealous of rich folks who do 'most of the work; and that we just love the gays more than murdered in the womb babies and that the only right wimmens have is to cross their legs.
Yeah...insulated from reality barely covers it.
