Kody Brown is a proud polygamist, and a relatively famous one. Now Mr. Brown, his four wives and 16 children and stepchildren are going to court to keep from being punished for it.

Hey, if you want 4 women telling you what to do and 16 children screaming through your house, god bless ya. Me? 1 wife and 2 dogs are more than enough.
Seriously, most of these polygamist marriages appear, to me, to be reminiscent of Sultanates and Sheikdoms. A dominant man with women and children being more property than partners. I wonder if a woman wanted to take 4 husbands, if the men would be so gung-ho about trying to make it legal. Seems to me the "bylaws" of these folks' belief system gives all the rights to the men and few, if any, to the women. There is too much room for abuse and that's where my beef comes in. If it worked both ways, I'd say let the masochists have at it.

The biggest issue with polygamy is that a lot of these polygamy cults do sick things like arranged marriages of children. There's no choice involved, if you're a cute 12 year old you're assigned to be the wife of a 50 year old cult leader whether you want it to be so or not. (Not that you're old enough to know what you want, at that age).
On the other hand, the anti-gay types who say that the same principle of non-interference in what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms apply to polygamy have a point. Does it hurt me if someone has two wives and three husbands (a'la' Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land)? Hardly. Sometimes I think folks need to MYOB and quit obsessing about the bedroom lives of other people.

Hear, hear! Almost an embarrassment of blessings!
I'm with Badtux on the 'polygamy cults'.
Everyone dances around Brigham Young and his "family."
A side problem of polygamy is that there is an instant excess of virile young men.
Why does anyone think that the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints sends out so many males to do missionary work? Well, it is either that or pray them into being gay.
Yes, I know that they now send females, but I, also, know that TV and radio advertising bring in fifty times as many converts as any "mission."
What did the latest census say about the number of married men versus the number of married women in Utah? Are there still over 20,000 more married women than married men there?
Northern Arizona too, right around the Utah line.
May be a fantasy for some men but does nothing for me personally.
