Quote of the Day

Comrade Misfit on the Vancouver Hockey Riots the other night:

...

It's only a fucking game, people. If your life is affected because a sports team lost a game, you may need to get professional help. Or you need to get laid.

Indeed. Being a Mets fan for 40-odd years, if we tore NYC up after every game where the Mets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, the place would look like Kandahar.

I was in the Bronx 40 years ago, Kandahar probably looked better.

The transition to the new format and access is working fine on Google Chrome. Thanks.

I was in the Bronx 30 years ago. Ditto. Ah, but I loved New York so much 30 years ago when it had some personality and it wasn't a monster of multi-million dollar condos (1.5 million for 750 square feet in Tribeca). There was plenty of crime, but The City was alive. The last time I was in New York, the old electricity was gone. It's Gordon Gecko's New York now.

As for fans tearing up a city, well, sports fans who really care about their team are idiots anyway. The mere fact that they give a damn means they live empty lives.

On the bright side, NYC has brighter lights and better food than Kandahar and some of the people damn near speak English. So I've heard.
