In a sane world ...

The President of the United States would not have to "incentivize" employers to hire our war vets. They would get first choice, period. Remember, they were over there under the guise of "fighting for our freedoms". It's the least we can do to repay them.

Like you say - in a sane world. Which means a world without wingnuts. Shit, you and me'd be the wingnuts! Heh.

The way I look at it, we wouldn't be as nuts if things actually worked sanely.

Remember Kipling's "Tommy Adkins"?

"An' it's Tommy this, an' it's Tommy that,
An' it's 'Tommy out the door',
But it's 'hero of the nation'
When the guns begin to roar..."

And that's about how we treat our vets.We're all gung-ho patriots when we send them to fight (saves our little pink asses from having to do it), but when their time is over and they come back to Civvy Street, we seem to give them as much consideration as used Kleenex....

One of my Kipling favorites.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

Fixer posted on that yesterday.
