It's time ...

To throw a net over the leadership of the NRA. President Obama said he would not pursue efforts at gun control. The NRA should be dancing in the streets but, alas, no:

You just can't please some people.

In the eyes of National Rifle Association (NRA) executive vice president Wayne LaPierre, President Barack Obama's decision not to pursue gun control legislation is a "massive conspiracy," and just another reason not to give him a second term.

"[The Obama campaign] will say gun owners -- they'll say they left them alone," LaPierre told an audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Friday. "In public, he'll remind us that he's put off calls from his party to renew the Clinton [assault weapons] ban, he hasn't pushed for new gun control laws... The president will offer the Second Amendment lip service and hit the campaign trail saying he's actually been good for the Second Amendment."

...

I believe we have a couple beds free in Bellevue. Christ ... these are the people who shouldn't be allowed to own firearms.

NRA is desperately unhappy he's not "going after guns". Without that, they have no reason for being other than to teach gun safety to kids, which is good but it doesn't bring in the bucks.

It saddens me. They were a pretty level-headed bunch thirty years ago. And I'm sure there are many members still that cringe every time one of their officers opens his mouth and proves he's batshit crazy.

I was an NRA member for years before they went all batcrap right-wing.

Ya know, I'm generally a gun rights defender (like it or not, the 2nd Amendment simply *is*, pretending it says something other than what it says is disdain for rule of law, the proper thing if you don't like it is to repeal it, not ignore it). But this kind of deranged divorced-from-reality nonsense certainly makes me want to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over my head, because it basically is painting all gun rights supporters as batshit crazy lunatics. Wayne LaPierre should be forced to resign in disgrace and replaced with someone who isn't a lunatic. But it won't happen, because everybody else remaining in the NRA is just as crazy as he is.

Hello BadTux,

Huh. "Everybody else remaining in the NRA is just as crazy as he is." That's really far up there on the crazy scale. Are you sure that some of them aren't even crazier than he is?
