Blonde vs Bear

I watched a show last night that you might like. It's called "Blonde vs Bear" on Animal Planet and it's about a local legend around here named Ann Bryant of the BEAR League and her efforts to keep bears from being killed because of stupid humans or the bears' own instincts that get them in trouble with same. This ol' gal is the bears' best friend around here and occasionally the center of controversy. She likes bears better than people and sometimes I don't blame her.

RENO, Nev.—A longtime bear protection group at Lake Tahoe is the focus of an upcoming series of episodes on the national television program Animal Planet.

The three-part mini-series "Blonde vs. Bear" offers an up close look at volunteers for the Homewood, Calif.-based BEAR League as they respond to calls about bears and conflicts with humans around the lake and neighboring mountains.

The first episode is 10 p.m. Thursday with the others set for 10 p.m. March 24 and 31.

BEAR League Executive Director Ann Bryant says a film crew spent more than four months with volunteers last summer. She says they've had national media attention before but the Animal Planet shows will offer an in-depth study of the non-profit group's work to keep bears safe and wild in their natural habitat.

Animal Planet reruns stuff all the time, so check the listings for last night's episode. Give it a look. You'll get to see what my area looks like as well.
