Truckee's haunted history

In case any of yas are wonderin' why I like it here in this frozen hell*, an article in today's Sierra Sun:

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Jezebels beckoned in back alleys, drunken men swaggered the streets and gunshots shattered the dusky, darkening Truckee sky. A full moon cast a milky eye on the Old West town, clouds passing ghostly gray, a foreshadowing of the spooky evening.

It was a hub for lumbermen, ice harvesters, brewers and construction crews, Walterscheid said, with 22 saloons that had a reputation for bar fights, cheats and gamblers.

“That's a lot of testosterone,” Walter scheid said.

Ho-hum. Manly men doing manly things. Jist another Satiddy night in Paradise...

*Only part of the time.
