Let's just say that in my experience, pain can be used to glean information, good information, in the short term* - quick application of pain upon initial engagement in a one-time circumstance -
on the battlefield to gain a tactical advantage. Long term interrogation using painful, humiliating methods
becomes counterproductive quickly.
... Subjecting someone to pain and humiliation doesn't compel them to tell the truth; it compels them to say whatever will make the pain stop...
*Told ya I'm going to Hell.
Great thanks to Cabana Boy for the link.
